Organic certification means that coffee farmers avoid unnecessary chemicals and pesticides - good news for plant and animal life. Organic certification also means more money to the farmers, over and above the Fairtrade price.

Rainforest Alliance Certified, a certification program administered by the Rainforest Alliance, has developed sustainable product certifications for coffee, cocoa, sugar, produce, flowers and much more. Rainforest Alliance in a non-profit leader in product certification, working with partners around the world to address the needs of farmers and meet the demands of consumers.

Rainforest Alliance Certified coffee must meet rigorous criteria, including shade and forest structure, water quality and agrochemical management criteria. Rainforest Alliance Certified farms cover produce coffee in the western hemisphere as well as Africa and Asia. Roaster and retailers selling RA Certified coffee may use the certification seal, free of charge, upon registering with the program.

The FAIRTRADE Mark is a registered certification label for products sourced from producers in developing countries.

“Fairtrade is a strategy for poverty alleviation and sustainable development. Its purpose is to create opportunities for producers and workers who have been economically disadvantaged or marginalized by the conventional trading system. If fair access to markets under better trade conditions would help them to overcome barriers to development, they can join Fairtrade.”

Fairtrade is a tool for development that ensures disadvantaged farmers and workers in developing countries get a better deal through the use of the international FAIRTRADE Mark.
